Meeting Minutes November 12, 2011

Members of the Calligraphy Guild met at their new location at the Courts of Praise Church on Johnson Ave. in Pensacola on Saturday, November 12, 2011. Vice-President Candy Norman officiated in the absence of President Carla Godwin.

The first order of business was discussing possible places for the March 2012 workshop since the Courts of Praise would not be available on Sunday. Possible places mentioned were the Milton campus of PSC, where the SRAA meets, the auditorium at W FL Hospital, the EEA building where Candy’s sorority has their Christmas show, the Gulf Breeze Community Center, Catholic High and SS Dixon Primary school in Pace. Different members were going to investigate various venues.

Candy then read the letter from Carol Pallesen, the workshop presenter for March. She presented a possible twelve workshops; after discussion, “Calling all cards” was decided upon. It will be a combination of lettering, card making, and “fun.”

The next order of business was election of Officers. Candy Norman accepted the nomination for President. Marianne Richardson nominated Dulce Snowman for vice-president. She accepted the nomination. Marianne agreed to remain as Secretary and Dorothy Wallace agreed to remain as Treasurer. Voting followed and the slate of Officers was accepted unanimously.

Dorothy gave a treasurer’s report and said we made $150-200 on the Golden workshop.

It was discussed that we could give the Courts of Praise a donation to cover their utility expenses during our usage. We agreed to do so in 2012.

The Christmas party was discussed. It was decided to move the party to the 17th of December since two of the Officers will be out of town on the 10th. The party will either be at Carla’s or Marianne’s.

Our participation at the GreatGulfCoast Art Festival was reviewed. It was thought to be successful even though the traffic never necessitated having two calligraphers doing names. Next year we will be more intentional about bringing snacks and refreshments.

We began working on the 2012 schedule. In January the workshop will be pointed pen; Candy will lead us in using our pens to do Copperplate and Weaver writing.

February will be “Think Pink” – a Valentine’s brunch with a multi “workshop” – woven hearts, accordion books and folded Valentines.

March will be the Carol Pallesen workshop.

April will feature broad pen lettering.

The meeting was adjourned and Dorothy shared with us backgrounds for Versals. There was a display of items from the Golden workshop, also.

Respectfully submitted,
Marianne Richardson, Secretary
